Bang in Brandenburg: Chancellor’s wife Britta Ernst (62, SPD) quits as Minister of Education!
The wife of Olaf Scholz (64, SPD) is giving up her position after almost six years.
The reason apparently: lack of support from the SPD parliamentary group.
In the past few weeks, Ernst and the faction had repeatedly cracked. The reason: Ernst wants to fill 200 vacant teaching positions in schools with social workers. The SPD parliamentary group in Brandenburg rejects it.
Just a few days ago, the parliamentary group tried to change Ernst’s mind. But she stayed tough.
Now the chancellor’s wife is taking the consequences!
Ernst and Scholz have been married since 1998. Both had met in 1984 at the Hamburg Jusos.
The SPD politician studied economics and social economics. Before her job in the Brandenburg state government, she was Minister of Education in Schleswig-Holstein.
