Chancellor Olaf Scholz received national basketball coach Gordon Herbert in the Chancellery in Berlin on Wednesday.
“I congratulated national coach Gordon Herbert on his historic basketball world championship title last September via text message straight after the game – and I heard that it caused him to lose sleep. It’s nice that he still came to the Chancellery as a guest today!”, Scholz wrote about a picture of the two together on social media.
In the photo, Scholz is holding a signed national basketball jersey in his hands.
Scholz had invited Herbert to express to him and the team “his special recognition and great respect for winning the world championship title” last year, according to the Social Democrat’s official calendar.
Germany won World Cup gold for the first time in Manila last September by triumphing over Serbia. The world champion team is also scheduled to meet the Federal Chancellor in Berlin next summer.
