Chancellor Scholz keeps his fingers crossed for women at the World Cup

Chancellor Olaf Scholz keeps his fingers crossed for the German national team at the Women’s World Cup.

“The Federal Government and the Chancellor wish trainer Martina Voss-Tecklenburg and the entire team good luck for the first game against Morocco and a successful tournament in Australia and New Zealand,” said government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit in Berlin.

The players won the hearts of many fans “with their fresh, inspiring style of play” at the European Championships in England last year.

There was initially no information on a possible World Cup visit by Scholz and other federal ministers. Hebestreit said that, as usual, it depends on the course of the tournament. In the tournament, which begins on Thursday, the German team will meet Morocco, Colombia and South Korea in the preliminary round.

Captain Alexandra Popp wants to draw attention to the issue of violence against women with her captain’s armband. Interior Secretary Nancy Faeser supports this “with all my heart,” said a spokesman. She thanks the national team for bringing this serious social problem into the public eye.
