In the night from Thursday to Friday, the KNMI issued code yellow for the south and center of the country due to fog banks. In the provinces of Zeeland, South Holland, Utrecht, Gelderland, North Brabant and Limburg, fog banks occur with local visibility of less than 200 meters.
Fog banks can be treacherous as visibility can vary greatly from place to place. According to the weather institute, traffic and outdoor activities can be hindered by this. The fog banks will disappear in the early morning.
Friday afternoon, according to the KNMI, there will be some strong thunderstorms in the southeast with a chance of hail, local wind gusts of 60 to 70 kilometers per hour and a lot of precipitation in a short time. The weather institute has therefore issued a code yellow for the provinces of North Brabant, Limburg and Gelderland.
In South Limburg in particular, there is a risk of local severe weather, with flooding, hailstones of 2 to 4 centimeters in size and heavy wind gusts of over 100 kilometers per hour. Experts even speak of a chance of a so-called supercell, the heaviest possible thunderstorms. This can arise when a low-pressure area reacts to warm temperatures. Securing garden furniture is therefore certainly not a bad idea.
