Anyone who goes outside this morning should take slippery conditions into account. It may rain lightly this morning and because the surface is still frozen in many places, this may cause ice on the roads and paths.
The KNMI has therefore issued code yellow for almost the entire country. For Drenthe, the weather warning is in effect from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
By the way, it’s not sleet that’s falling. RTV Drenthe weatherman Hans Nienhuis explains: “Because the air temperature is completely above freezing. It is the ground that is below freezing, which means that the rain can freeze solid. From a meteorological point of view, it is therefore slightly different from sleet. The effect is the same, but the cause is slightly different.”
Finally, we will say goodbye to the winter weather later today. This afternoon the temperature will rise further and no more problems with slippery conditions are expected.
