Chance of melting snow from tomorrow: “A late winter prick in spring” | Instagram HLN

Mostly cloudy today and mostly dry. The maximums are between 7 degrees in the High Fens and 12 or locally 13 degrees in the center of the country, the KMI reports. Tomorrow it will be much cooler with temperatures around 3 degrees. “Even melting snow is expected tomorrow. There could also be snow on Friday,” says our weatherman Frank Duboccage.

In the evening and at night it will be partly cloudy at first and except for a local shower it will be dry. In the second part of the night, a cold front moves into the country from the northwest with rain that can turn into (melting) snow. It will remain mostly dry in the southeastern half of the country until tomorrow morning. The minimums are between -2 degrees in some Ardennes valleys and +4 degrees in Belgian Lorraine.

Tomorrow a disturbance moves further east across the country with rain or (melting) snow. “It cools down to about 3 degrees. We may start with melting snow in the west of the country,” says our weatherman Frank Duboccage.

In the southeast the day will start dry, in the west it will become cloudy during the day with a few showers of rain, melting snow or grain hail. It will be quite cold with maximums of 2 to 8 degrees.

Will the snow stay?

“At the moment it is difficult to say whether the snow will remain, but it is quite certain that it will snow in many places. A late prick of winter in the spring season,” laughs weatherman Nicolas Roose Severe WeatherBenelux

Whether the snow will remain depends on various factors. “If the snowfall starts quite early and a thin carpet of snow can form during the morning, the snow can withstand the increasing sun for longer. The previous history with a lot of sun and fairly high temperatures of the past few days does not help either,” says NoodweerBenelux.

When can we expect winter precipitation?

According to NoodweerBenelux, there are still a number of uncertainties in the various weather models regarding the timing and intensity of the precipitation zone. Most calculations indicate the precipitation zone in the course of Thursday over the Benelux. In many places, this results in melting snow, which can transform into dry snow when the intensity is sufficient.

The highest chances are in the morning and late afternoon when temperatures can be lower. The maximums on Thursday will stagnate around 3°C.

The winter precipitation chances will also remain close to the Benelux on Friday 1 April 2022. Locally there will be some more snow, but before that we have to wait for the latest calculations.

“In the night from Thursday to Friday it cools down to freezing point”, our weatherman continues. “It just keeps raining. That rain will turn into (melting) snow at night.”

Friday it will be mostly cloudy with periods of rain or melting snow in the east, in the Ardennes mostly snow. The maximums fluctuate from 0 to 7 degrees in a bleak northeasterly wind with gusts around 80 kilometers per hour, especially at the sea.

While the weekend we get sunny periods. At night temperatures hover around -3 degrees Celsius. During the day we get maximums of up to 7 degrees.
