Championship maker Danny Rombley quits HCAW after loss to Amsterdam: “Choose myself”

Immediately after the elimination in the play-offs, HCAW coach Danny Rombley announced that he would quit the Bussum team. “The boys already knew it, but in private I have to be there a little more. I choose for myself,” said an emotional Rombley after the loss.

So after two years, Rombley stops at HCAW. In his first year with the North Hollanders he immediately won the national championship. This year he was stranded in the play-offs.

Thriller

In the play-offs for a place in the Holland Series (national championship), the all-deciding fifth game was lost 7-3 to Amsterdam Pirates. “This is hard. We played five good games. It could have gone either way, but we let too many people get on base today,” Rombley said.

Contrast

The difference in emotions was big between HCAW and Amsterdam. The Bussumers were of course very disappointed with the elimination, while Amsterdam was very happy with the win. “We really showed it. I am really proud of those boys,” said a happy Gario afterwards.

Because the European Baseball Championship will be played in September, the Holland Series will not start until October 7. Amsterdam Pirates will then compete in a best-of-seven series against Neptunus.
