Champions Munich back on the road to success

Defending champion EHC Red Bull Munich has underlined its claims to direct play-off qualification in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL). The four-time champions climbed to fourth place with their third home win in a row despite being behind three times with 6:4 (1:2, 4:1, 1:1) against the Straubing Tigers and thus consolidated their position among the top six teams.

The third-placed guests, on the other hand, missed the possible striking distance to the leading duo due to their third defeat in foreign halls. Lower Bavaria is still five points behind second-placed Fischtown Pinguins Bremerhaven. Leaders Eisbären Berlin are already eight points ahead of the Tigers.

The home team got back on the road to success after the 2:3 at Adler Mannheim despite being behind three times in the first two thirds. The two-time goalscorer Yasin Ehliz (24th/35th) was Munich’s most successful player, but Thomas Heigl paved the way to their third success in the last four games with the third equalizer just nine seconds after the Tigers took a 3-2 lead Champion (29th). Austin Ortega brought the final point (50th). In Straubing’s team, Mark Zengerle didn’t particularly enjoy his brace (17th/29th).
