Champions, Lille 1-2 Chelsea: penalty from Yilmaz and goals from Pulisic and Azpilicueta

The referee protagonist of the Belotti case in Turin-Inter at 0-0 did not see a hand from Jorginho in the area, but after being recalled to the video by Irrati he gave the penalty. It was not enough for the French, struck by Pulisic and Azpilicueta

The 2-0 at Stamford Bridge put Chelsea in a carriage – overwhelmed by Abramovich’s troubles – but qualifying for the quarter-finals of the Champions League came with some thrills. Just for a few minutes, the time elapsed between Yilmaz’s goal from a penalty (38 ‘) and Pulisic’s equalizer (48’) and that between Xeka’s post (63 ‘) and Azpilicueta’s 2-1 (71’) . Tuchel’s Chelsea pass, as expected.

The result of the first leg obviously weighed heavily on the attitude of the two teams from the very first minutes of the match. With two goals to recover, Lille couldn’t wait and didn’t wait, in fact. In the face of a sterile ball possession by Chelsea, at least in the first part the French have found more and better the opposing area. Taking advantage in particular of the weak side of the English, the right one where Christensen was whipped by Gudmundsson, before going out with an injury (on 30 ‘). Two turnovers by Jorginho gave birth to opportunities not exploited by Lille: in the first, Yilmaz let Thiago Silva deflect his shot (8 ‘); in the second still the Turkish wasted a nice counterattack triggered by David.

mass does not see

At 35 ‘still Jorginho protagonist (in evil). The midfielder moved the ball with one arm in the middle of the area, but the referee Massa (yes, he himself, the man who at the Var last Sunday had not recalled to the video Guide for the obvious foul by Ranocchia on Belotti in Turin- Inter) did not see – or misjudged – and kept the game going. To save him from another blunder, however, Var Irrati took care of it. Clear arm, so Massa after reviewing the episode conceded the penalty to Lilla, transformed by power by Yilmaz (38 ‘). Qualification reopened. Except that Jorginho is also capable of superfine plays and with one of these, in full recovery, he sent Pulisic into the goal. The American striker, as in the first leg, did not forgive. All to be redone for Lilla.

Gourvennec’s team even in the second half clung to Yilmaz, the most dangerous, who in the 51st minute headed close to the goal that would have put pepper back into the match. Botman’s muscle injury did not discourage Lilla, Xeka hit the post with a gore (63 ‘) and deluded the audience again. However, such generosity was not rewarded and, in the 71st minute, Azpilicueta pushed Chelsea to the quarterfinals.
