Champions League: THW Kiel sweeps Montpellier off the plate

Handball record champion THW Kiel celebrated a clear victory in its first home game of the year.

Coach Filip Jicha’s team won the duel against direct competitor Montpellier HB surprisingly clearly in the Champions League on Wednesday with 35:26 (19:13) and took the important second place in Group A.

The French from Montpellier, who clearly won the first comparison with Kiel, follow in third place. The two best teams in the two groups qualify directly for the quarter-finals.

After the last five away games, THW impressed with a strong team performance in front of their home crowd.

Steffen Weinhold was the most successful thrower with five goals. Harald Reinkind, Patrick Wiencek, Niclas Ekberg and Hendrik Pekeler each scored four goals. Niklas Landin caught an outstanding day in goal, the Danish top star kept making saves and was therefore a strong support.
