Champions League | THW Kiel in the semi-final against FC Barcelona

Tough draw for THW Kiel: The record German handball champion meets defending champions FC Barcelona in the semi-finals of the Champions League.

That was the result of the draw in Vienna. Hungary’s top club KC Veszprem and the Polish champion Vive Kielce with national goalkeeper Andreas Wolff are fighting for the second final ticket. The Final4 rises on 18./19. June in Cologne.

There the eagerly awaited new edition of the 2020 final will take place, when Kiel prevailed against Barça with 33:28. “We hope to bring the trophy back to Kiel,” said THW backcourt player Sander Sagosen after the draw. Barcelona is the record winner in the premier class with ten triumphs. Kiel has won the trophy four times so far: in 2007, 2010, 2012 and 2020. Kielce won in 2016, while Veszprem is still waiting for its first Champions League title.
