Handball Bundesliga team SG Flensburg-Handewitt has taken a big step towards the quarter-finals in the Champions League.
The top class winner from 2014 prevailed in the round of 16 first leg against the Hungarian champions Pick Szeged in their own hall 25:21 (14:10) and thus established a good starting position for the second leg on April 7th.
Shortly before the break, Flensburg were already up by seven goals, but in the second half the guests came back to within one goal. After that, Maik Machulla’s team recovered and had the game under control. The SG’s best pitcher was Hampus Wanne with five goals, while the Spaniard Imanol Garciandia also scored five goals in Szeged.
The winner of the duel plays in the quarterfinals on 11./12. and 18./19. May against FC Barcelona, who, like THW Kiel, had qualified directly for the round of eight. The Final Four in Cologne will take place on June 18th and 19th.
