Champions League: SC Magdeburg is getting closer to direct quarter-finals

The German handball champion SC Magdeburg has defended second place in group A of the Champions League and still has the best chance of reaching the quarter-finals directly.

Magdeburg won 31:25 (16:14) against the Croatian series champion Dinamo Zagreb. Kay Smits was the top scorer in Magdeburg with nine goals.

Magdeburg didn’t start the game well, trailing behind (2:3/6), but was able to quickly turn the game around and advance.

However, the people from Elbestadt could not break away, the hosts fought for every ball, so that the SCM had to work hard for every goal. Magdeburg went into the break with a narrow lead.

Immediately after the restart, Magdeburg increased their lead to three goals for the first time (17:14/31st). But Zagreb immediately followed suit and shortened again.

The SCM gained a small lead and gradually increased it to six goals (26:20/46) and defended it until the end.
