Milan (AP) – The English football club FC Liverpool is heading for the quarter-finals of the Champions League. After six wins in six group games, coach Jürgen Klopp’s team also won the round of 16 first leg at Inter Milan on Wednesday evening and scored 2-0 (0-0).
The goals for the Reds were scored by Roberto Firmino (75th minute) and goalscorer Mohamed Salah (83rd). The star ensemble around Egypt’s star striker Salah, who played his 50th game in the European premier class at the San Siro, secured an excellent starting position for the second leg on March 8th in Anfield.
Italy’s champions Inter Milan, who are in the round of 16 in the premier class for the first time in ten years, gave the first signal with a dangerous long-range shot by Lautaro Martinez – just wide. Former Bundesliga professional Hakan Calhanoglu hit the bar (16′). In the brisk game, the Reds then had a slight advantage and kept looking for Salah, who scored his eighth goal of this premier class season with a 2-0 lead.
At the beginning of the second half, Inter increased the pressure and pace, and now the 40,000 or so spectators could be heard. Former Bundesliga player Ivan Perisic was on the ball in many offensive actions and was one of the best in Inter coach Simone Inzaghi’s team. Former Wolfsburg player Edin Dzeko was also busy defending the Reds. But the 2019 Champions League winner and 2020 English champion came back, determined what happened in the final phase – and can now dream of the quarter-finals.
