Champions League | Inter Milan holds its own against Salzburg

Last year’s finalists Inter Milan have taken another big step towards the knockout rounds of the Champions League. The top Italian football club defeated Red Bull Salzburg 2-1 (1-0) on the third matchday of the group stage and has now collected four points more than the Austrians, who lost for the second time in a row.

Alexis Sanchez (19th) made it 1-0 for Inter with the first chance. Salzburg kept up well for a long time, but kept getting caught up in Milan’s attentive defense. After the very nice equalizer by Israeli Oscar Gloukh (57th), Milan quickly had the perfect answer: Former Bundesliga professional Hakan Calhanoglu converted a penalty kick (64th) to take the lead again.

After that, Inter had the game under control, the former Munich and Gladbach player Yann Sommer in the Italian goal was hardly challenged. Instead, the hosts celebrated again: another goal by world champion Lautaro Martinez (81′) did not count because of offside.
