The last Italian representative in the premier class has the very best chance of achieving the quarter -finals: Inter Milan ultimately won confidently at Feyenoord Rotterdam on Wednesday evening (05.03.2025).
The goals for 2: 0 (1: 0) success of the “Nerazzurri” scored the ex-Gladbach Marcus Thuram (38th minute) and Argentina’s national striker Lautaro Martínez (50th). In addition, Inter failed with a penalty (65th).
Feyenoord begins powerfully
In the first round, however, the home side first caught the better start, put an interior under pressure and reached several degrees. Ibrahim Osman in particular became dangerous several times, but Yann-Sommer replacement Josep Martinez, under contract between 2020 and 2022 at RB Leipzig, shone with a good position game.
The Milanese forced the switching game from the 25th minute, but hardly even came close to the ex -Karlsruher and Schalkers Timon Wellereuther in the goal of the Rotterdam.
Thuram meets the first inter-chance
In the 35th minute, Wellenreuther had to fend off the first ball after a side puller from Francesco Acerbi, the first real chance shortly afterwards caused the inter-leadership: Denzel Dumfries had accelerated the game over the right, Nicolo Barella extended perfectly to the second post to Thuram, who carried out technically high quality by volley.
Feyenoord defended just as airy as the 0: 1 five minutes after the restart. Bastoni got far too little pressure on the left wing, Piotr Zielinski was able to complete the center in the center. The rebound landed at Martínez, who also had a lot of time and plenty of space – and chased the ball dry into the right angle.
Wellenreuther prevents worse
In the episode, Inter acted more and more superior, but was also very lucky: Osman prevailed in the 56th minute on the left, then played perfectly in the course of Jakub Moder in the center – but he only hit the top of the slattreuard when he finished directly.
On the sideline, the former Dutch top striker Robin van Persie put his hands over his head, but shortly afterwards the Feyenoord coach applauded: Wellenreuther parried a penalty from Zielinski that Thuram had brought out in a duel with Jeyland Mitchell. Until the end, Feyenoord then tried to get a better starting position for the second leg on March 11 (9 p.m., live ticker at Sportschau.de), but Inter left almost nothing.
