Champions League final gets mediocre TV ratings

The Champions League final gave ZDF a rather moderate TV rating.

5.56 million fans watched Manchester City’s 1-0 win over Inter Milan on free TV on Saturday evening, making the broadcaster the clear winner of the day, as expected. The market share was 26.1 percent. A year ago, 8.39 million people (MA: 34.5 percent) watched the final between Real Madrid and Liverpool FC on ZDF.

According to the media magazine DWDL, the last final shown on free TV without German participation in 2018, also between Real and Liverpool, had a significantly higher rating with around 9.6 million viewers.

Overall, however, the number of viewers on Saturday should have been higher, since DAZN also broadcast live. However, the sports streaming service does not provide any information about ranges.

In 2019 and 2021 only Sky and DAZN broadcast the final. In 2020, thanks to the participation of Bayern Munich, the reach was significantly higher with around 12.8 million viewers.
