An independent investigation concludes that UEFA itself is to blame for what happened around the Champions League-had finals.
UEFA wears the “primary responsibility” for the chaos surrounding this Champions League-final between real Madrid and the Liverpool FC (1-0) last May. This is the result of an independent study commissioned by the European Football Association itself.
As the organizer of the event, UEFA is responsible for the mistakes that “almost led to his catastrophe“, says the report from Monday (February 12, 2023).
Apologies from UEFA
The final on May 28, 2022 was only started 37 minutes late after there had been chaotic scenes around the stadium. In front of the entrances of the fan blocks of the Liverpool FC long lines had formed, there was a great crush in overcrowded bottlenecks, and the police also intervened with tear gas.
UEFA General Secretary Theodore Theodoridis once again apologized to all those affected on behalf of UEFA. “I would especially like to thank the fans of the Liverpool FC apologize for the messages published before and during the game which had the effect of unfairly blaming them for the situation”said Theodoridis.
Many fans felt the Hillsborough1989 disaster that left 97 dead, after which Liverpool supporters were initially also wrongly blamed.
Ticket fraud
The incidents in Paris resulted in a total of 238 injuries and 105 arrests, and around 2,700 fans with a valid ticket were unable to enter the stadium.
According to information from the French government, a massive ticket fraud had contributed to the difficulties Stade de France guided.
