Huge setback for the Eintracht Frankfurt footballers in the fight for a place in the knockout phase of the Champions League: The Hessians did not get beyond 1:1 (1:0) against Benfica Lisbon on Thursday evening in the Waldstadion at home. Progression in Group A is now a long way off.
The well-playing Eintracht took the lead in the first half through Geraldine Reuteler (28th minute) and then had several good opportunities to increase the result. Nycole Raysla punished Frankfurt’s misuse of chances and was able to equalize for Benfica in the second half (71′).

From a Hessian perspective, the evening became very bitter in stoppage time when Laura Freigang missed the possible winning goal from the penalty spot a few moments before the final whistle.
