Champions League: Eintracht Frankfurt takes a point, Bayer Leverkusen loses

Napoli deal with Ajax

Lean food instead of a lavish football festival: Eintracht Frankfurt missed the first home win in the club’s history in the Champions League at the second attempt, but with a goalless draw against Tottenham Hotspur they still had every chance of progressing. In front of 50,500 spectators, the Hessians deserved a point in the duel with the third-placed team in the English Premier League around star striker Harry Kane on Tuesday due to the improvement in performance in the second half.

With four points each, both teams are tied in Group D behind leaders Sporting Lisbon (6), who lost 4-1 at Olympique Marseille (3). Eintracht will travel to London for the second leg as early as next week.

Champions League: Bayer Leverkusen loses in Porto

Now, more than ever, Gerardo Seoane is threatened with the end: Bayer Leverkusen also messed up in the Champions League after the 0: 4 debacle at FC Bayern and thus increased the pressure on his coach, who was in serious trouble. The penultimate in the Bundesliga lost a sometimes crazy game at FC Porto 0: 2 (0: 0) and thus missed a big step towards the round of 16. Zaidu (69′) and Galeno (87′) scored the goals.

However, the team’s performance and attitude over the long haul were arguments for Seoane getting his job final against FC Schalke on Saturday. If the Swiss player doesn’t win with the Werkself against the promoted side either, his time in Leverkusen will almost certainly come to an end.

The whole emotional rollercoaster of feelings for Seoane culminated just before the break when Porto scored, the goal was disallowed, Bayer received a hand penalty and Patrik Schick missed it (45). A goal by Callum Hudson-Odoi had previously been disallowed (15′). To make matters worse, Jeremie Frimpong also saw yellow-red after repeated foul play (88.)

SSC Napoli dismantles Ajax, Club Brugge surprises against Atlético

SSC Napoli is the best team of this Champions League season so far. At Ajax Amsterdam, Napoli won spectacularly 6-1 (3-1) on Tuesday. The Italians have won all three group games by at least three goals. Liverpool follow in the group with six points after a comfortable win over Glasgow Rangers. Coach Jürgen Klopp’s team won 2-0 (1-0) with goals from Trent Alexander-Arnold (7th) and Mohamed Salah (53rd) with a converted penalty kick.

FC Brugge remains the surprising leaders in Group B without losing a point. The Belgian champions won 2-0 (1-0) against Atlético Madrid and even didn’t concede a goal. Among other things, Atletico’s Antoine Griezmann shot a penalty on the crossbar (77th). In the FC Bayern Munich group, Inter Milan won the duel against FC Barcelona 1-0 (1-0). Hakan Calhanoglu scored decisively from distance shortly before the half-time whistle (45+2). Robert Lewandowski remained pale.
