The coach of Bayern’s last Champions League opponent Lazio Rome is resigning. An ex-professional who played for both clubs is now being discussed as his successor.
Maurizio Sarri is no longer the coach of Italian Serie A club Lazio. The club confirmed the separation on Wednesday. Italian media had already reported the day before that Sarri had resigned after four competitive defeats in a row.
The previous assistant coach Giovanni Martusciello will act as interim coach. Lazio also thanked Sarri for his commitment in a statement. Most recently, the club failed in the round of 16 of the Champions League against German record champions Bayern Munich (1-0, 0-3). Sarri also complained about the club’s transfer policy.
World Cup record goalscorer Miroslav Klose is still being discussed in the Italian media as a possible coach of the Romans. “Yes, of course, of course. I can be there tomorrow. I would do it,” said Klose on Prime Video on the sidelines of the second leg of the round of 16 in the Champions League between FC Barcelona and SSC Napoli (3-1).
Klose: “I’m free and ready, I could get started straight away”
“But I am convinced that this will be the case in the near future. I am in good spirits, free and ready. I could get started straight away,” continued Klose. Klose was last there as a TV expert in Rome for the first leg of FC Bayern’s round of 16 (0-1). And was celebrated frenetically by the fans of his former club Lazio before kick-off.
“I’m there regularly and have a lot of friends in Rome. It’s always been fantastic, the people and fans have always welcomed me with great openness. I always enjoy coming back there,” said Klose. “It’s a great city, I like the Italian cuisine, the language.” Is Klose now returning to the Eternal City as a coach? In any case, he has the best prerequisites for this.
After his time at FC Bayern, the 45-year-old played at Lazio from 2011 to 2016 and ended his career there. During this time he was very popular with Roman fans.
