As of: 10/25/2022 11:09 p.m

Borussia Dortmund made it into the last 16 of the Champions League on Tuesday (25.10.22) with a draw against Manchester City.

BVB started with a lot of commitment and came dangerously in front of the guests’ goal with an incomplete counterattack and a shot by Julian Brandt. But it wasn’t until the 17th minute that Stefan Ortega had to intervene massively in the English goal: Karim Adeyemi shot from the right half of the penalty area after a strong solo, the ex-Bielefeld keeper showed his class on the save.

Adeyemi was again a key player in the home side’s next big chance: his pass from the right found Youssoufa Moukoko, but the ball went past the far post. Incidentally, BVB managed perfectly to take its ex-striker Erling Haaland out of the game: Man City’s coach Pep Guardiola took the Norwegian out of the game during the break.

Penalty for Manchester – and Kobel saved

The first big highlight in the second half of the game: A fully justified penalty for Manchester: Emre Can had touched Riyad Mahrez in the Dortmund penalty area during a tackle, Mahrez gratefully accepted the gift. Although the only penalty kicked by the Algerian this season didn’t go into the goal, the fouled man went to take it himself. His attempt: shot hard, but perfectly parried by Gregor Kobel.

Dortmund didn’t allow anything anymore and thanks to the direct comparison with FC Sevilla they celebrated the direct entry into the round of 16 of the Champions League.

“It was very, very important that we reward each other”Kobel said on Prime Video, “We are super happy that we qualified.” The 0:0 go “in the end sure ok”. For Jude Bellingham, that meant progress “A lot. We don’t take that for granted. We want to go as far as possible.”
