FC Bayern maintained their lead in their Champions League group with a clear home win against Viktoria Pilsen.
Bayern won 5-0 (3-0) against the Czech champions in Munich on Tuesday (October 4th, 2022) and remain top of the table in Group C with a maximum haul of nine points from three games, Pilsen is last with zero points. In the evening Inter Milan and FC Barcelona played against each other (both previously three points each).
Nagelsmann: “Confident and well deserved
The goals were scored by Leroy Sané (7th minute/50th), Serge Gnabry (13th), Sadio Mané (21st) and Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting (59th). After beating Leverkusen 4-0, Bayern put their crisis behind them for the time being.
“The performance was great. We created a lot of chances and scored five goals. It was a deserved win. It’s been a difficult few weeks for us,” said Mané. Coach Julian Nagelsmann said: “It was a serious approach, very confident and well deserved.”
Bayern use the large spaces in Pilsen’s defensive
Bayern played dominant from the start. Sané walked through the sluggish back of the guests and scored from the edge of the penalty area to make it 1-0 (7th). Bayern continued to enjoy a lot of freedom, in the 13th minute Gnabry met a pass from Leon Goretzka. Mané then dribbled into the penalty area, stumbled the ball briefly, but then scored confidently from ten meters.
The one-sided game was never exciting. In the 36th minute, Mané put on for Jamal Musiala, who scored – but was just a toe offside. This season, UEFA is using semi-automatic offside detection for the first time in the Champions League.
Shortly after the break Sané increased Mané’s second goal to 4:0 (50th). At the end of a combination of Mané and Goretzka, Choupo-Moting appeared free in front of the goal and converted (59th).
Bayern now in Dortmund, then in Pilsen
Bayern now have two away games. In the Bundesliga, the game at Borussia Dortmund is scheduled for Saturday (October 8th, 2022/6:30 p.m.). The second leg in Pilsen is scheduled for the following Wednesday (9 p.m.).
