The Eisbären Berlin suffered another defeat in the group stage of the Champions Hockey League (CHL).

The Berliners lost 2:3 (0:1, 2:1, 0:1) against Fölunda HC from Gothenburg. They twice equalized from behind, but a last-minute goal sealed the game. Already last Saturday, the German champions were clearly defeated by the Swedish top club with 1:7.

Polar bears fought to the end

In front of 2,230 spectators in Berlin’s Wellblechpalast, Tom Nilsson scored after just 89 seconds for the guests from Gothenburg. The polar bears only managed to prevent further goals from being conceded until the first break with great defensive effort. In the second third, the hosts came back onto the ice more aggressively and equalized with a goal from Marco Baßler (24th). Only a short time later, Christian Folin put the Swedes back in the lead, but Matt White from Berlin, who was outnumbered, managed to respond directly and equalize again (33rd).

In the final third, the polar bears fought with everything they had against the superior opponent and survived a double outnumbered situation. After that there were even chances to take the lead, but they couldn’t take them. Instead, Gothenburg’s Ryan Lasch scored the winning goal for the guests 38 seconds before the end.
