Chamber approves energy VAT reduction with excise reform

The plenary Chamber has today given the green light for the VAT reduction from 21 to 6 percent on gas and electricity, linked to the excise reform, from 1 April. The federal government agreed a few weeks ago on a series of energy reforms. The VAT reduction and the associated excise duty reform have been in the pipeline for some time. The VAT on gas and electricity has been reduced to 6 percent for about a year, but that was a “temporary” measure to reduce energy bills. From April 1, that rate will therefore become permanent.
