Chairman Jan Smit and other FC Volendam board members have to leave

Chairman Jan Smit is leaving FC Volendam. He writes on Facebook that he and the other three board members have been told by the Supervisory Board that they have to leave.

Smit was a board member of the club from the fishing village for ten years and clashed hard with the Supervisory Board last spring. Attempts were made to glue the pieces together, but in vain. According to Smit, there will be another meeting next Thursday, but it would be for form.

The football club recently presented its annual figures. This showed that there was a deficit of over three million euros on a budget of ten million euros. These figures were significantly worse than the loss of two million that Supervisory Board chairman Jaap Veerman warned at the information evening in question.

Keje Molenaar

There was also disagreement between the Supervisory Board and the board about the appointment of vice-chairman Keje Molenaar. His nomination was stopped by the Supervisory Board. The Supervisory Board has been at odds for some time with a number of key figures, known as Team Jonk. It is not yet clear what the departure of the board means for the retention of Wim Jonk, trainer Matthias Kohler and the board members.

Sports-wise, things are not going well for the club this season. After last weekend’s loss against AZ, the club is in penultimate place. Next Saturday, FC Volendam will play at home against PEC Zwolle.
