A year after the last change of management at JD.com, changes are again pending for the Chinese e-commerce group.
Chief Financial Officer Sandy Ran Xu has been appointed to the role of CEO. She succeeds Lei Xu, who took over as managing director last April. Lei Xu is stepping down from his positions as the company’s chief executive officer and executive director for personal reasons, JD.com announced on Friday. Ran’s previous role as CFO will be taken over by Ian Su Shan, the current Chief Financial Officer of JD Logistics.
Xu Lei will begin handing over to Xu Ran immediately, leaving enough time for a seamless transition until his resignation in June, the release said. The outgoing CEO has held various senior positions at JD.com for over a decade. In the future, he will continue to support the e-commerce group as the first chairman of the division.
“On behalf of our board, I would like to thank Lei for his outstanding contributions to JD.com,” said Richard Qiangdong Liu, chairman of JD.com. “His sound judgment and leadership skills as CEO have been instrumental in our development.”
His successor, Ran Xu, has been with the group since 2018 and held the position of Chief Financial Officer of JD Retail before assuming the CFO role for JD.com in June 2020. Su Shan, who will assume her role as CFO, joined JD.com in December 2021. Most recently, he held the role of Chief Financial Officer for JD Logistics.
“We believe that Sandy as CEO and Ian as CFO will provide strong leadership for JD.com,” said Liu.
