CFDA Fashion Awards: The winners

The US fashion association Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) presented its 2023 awards on Monday evening and honored the greats of US fashion.

Actress Anne Hathaway hosted the gala presented by Amazon Fashion, which began with a welcome speech from CEO and US designer Thom Browne.

One of the big winners of the evening was the creative director of the New York fashion house Khaite, Catherine Holstein, who received the “American Womenswear Designer of the Year” award. Designer Willy Chavarria received the award for “American Menswear Designer of the Year.”

Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen, founders of Los Angeles-based luxury brand The Row, were honored with the American Accessory Designer of the Year award by American comedian Ayo Edebiri and Nepali-American designer Prabal Gurung.

Rachel Scott of Diotima, the US fashion house founded in 2020 that celebrates the designer’s Jamaican heritage, was honored with the Shop with Google American Emerging Designer of the Year Award.

Other notable guests of the evening included American designer Vera Wang, who received the Board of Directors’ Tribute Award for her work in bridal fashion, and Chilean designer Maria Cornejo, who received the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement. Prize was honored. Mara Hoffman and her luxury label of the same name were awarded the “Environmental Sustainability” award. Northern Irish fashion designer Jonathan Anderson received the International Award for his own brand JW Anderson and his work as creative director at Spanish fashion house Loewe.

At the same time, well-known personalities who have an influence on the fashion industry were also honored. These include the American tennis player Serena Williams, who was named this year’s “Fashion Icon,” as well as the founder of the lifestyle brand Goop, actress Gwyneth Paltrow, who received the innovation award.

Tom Ford presented the “Founder’s Award” in honor of the American fashion journalist and CFDA founder Eleanor Lambert, who died in 2003, to the chairman of Tom Ford International, Domenico De Sole, to recognize the Italian businessman’s contribution to the US fashion industry.
