As of: November 8th, 2023 10:23 p.m

The start of the CEV Cup was successful for the volleyball players from Dresdner SC. The Elbe team only struggled in one set against the Spanish champions CV Gran Canaria.

The Dresdner SC volleyball players have made a successful start to the European Cup. Coach Alexander Waibl’s team won the first round of the CEV Cup against Spanish champions CV Gran Canaria 3-0 (25:23, 25:21, 32:30). The six-time German champions have thus created a good starting point for the second leg next Wednesday in their own hall.

Janiska is convincing as usual

Both teams exchanged blows at times. In the first set, the DSC women were already 12:16 behind, fought back and kept their nerve in the decisive phase. That gave them tailwind for the second half. They served powerfully, acted from a very stable position and were tactically well prepared against the Gran Canaria offensive, including in block defense.

In the third round, captain Jennifer Janiska earned the DSC their first match point with a score of 24:21. But the Spaniards held on, fended off six opposing chances and then scored two set points themselves. In the end, Janiska, who was her team’s most successful scorer with 16 points, converted the seventh match point to victory for the Dresden team after 82 minutes.
