Cervera defends investment in beds to isolate the elderly in the midst of a pandemic

The ‘counselor’ of Social Rights of the GeneralitatViolant Cervera, has defended this Wednesday the investment of the Government to guarantee that in the Catalan residences would have free beds to isolate elderly people with covid in the midst of a pandemic, when there were still no vaccines against the coronavirus.

He said it in one interpellation of the deputy of Cs, Anna Grau, in the Parliament, which has asked him about the 7.8 million that the Generalitat paid to centers to reserve spaces for residents with covid that were not occupied, according to EL PERIÓDICO.

“Has there been or is there 3% in white coats?” asked Grau, who has asked more transparency and control to the Government in social and health tenders and eradicate malpractice in this area.

Isolation, the only option

Cervera has maintained that the Government adopted a decree law that reserved places to isolate the elderly after Parliament passed a resolution calling for guarantee “isolation spaces” in residential centers in a monographic plenary session in July 2020.

He remembered that at that time the isolation was the only measure to prevent covid infectionssince there were no vaccines available yet, and that later the Parliament validated the decree: “Apologize, whatever is necessary, because that was terrible for many citizens.”

“But you also have to remember how terrible that time was, the misinformation and inability of all health authorities to combat it. The only tool found then was the isolates“, has added.
