‘Cerdita’ wins the Méliès de Oro for best feature film in Sitges

  • The horror film about ‘bullying’, which opens this Friday in theaters, has just won two awards also in Austin and Strasbourg

The film ‘Little Pig’, directed by Charlotte Pereda and starring Laura Galanhas won the Gold Melies Award in the feature film category, and ‘From beyond’, an experimental work directed by Fredrik S.Hana, in the short film category. The jury, made up of film critics Alberto Lechuga, Víctor López and Maria Jacarilla, recognized “the reimagining of the ‘slasher’ from a more classic perspective” of ‘Cerdita’, as reported by the festival in a statement on Tuesday.

The Melies d’Or It comes just a few weeks after ‘Little Pig’, which opens this Friday in theaters, won two of the most important awards in the genre: best horror film at the Fantastic Film Festival of Austinone of the most recognized festivals in the world, and the Méliès de Plata for best European feature film at the European Fantastic Film Festival in Strasbourg, both held last September. The film is a brutal reflection on the harassment of those who are different, full of blood, revenge and black humorstarting with a small town girl who is subjected to fat bullying.

On the other hand, the Melies Career this year, which recognizes the career of a leading name in the industry, has gone to the Italian composer Claudio Simonetticreator of some of the most unforgettable ‘giallo’ melodies of the 70s. Leading the progressive rock band Goblin, Simonetti is the creator of melodies such as the notes of the bells in the main theme of ‘Suspiria’ by Dario Argento or that of the synthesizer from the soundtrack of ‘Dark Red’.

The Melies d’Or awards they are awarded each year to the best European long and short films, with the aim of recognizing creativity and making productions visible, and are awarded by the Méliès International Festivals Federation (MIFF), a network of 25 film festivals in 19 countries.
