Cercle does not want to make sixth place an end point.
Cercle wants to continue on its chosen path on its 125th birthday. Coach confirms that Music: “We have done a good job, but we are in a performance model. We have to live up to it again. Confirmation is never easy after such a good season. Yes, but that’s the beauty of competition. That’s why we are sportsmen, to challenge ourselves, but also each team. That’s exactly what we’re going to do.”
The project can be boosted by the sporting success. Charles Vanhoutte was sold to Union, other guys will undoubtedly follow. Dewilde is new, as is Semedo, who is on loan from Monaco.
Muslic embodies the Cercle project: “That is our project. We develop players, give them options, to be able to sell them. We may get new faces, but we keep our identity.”
“Own practice complex, separate from Club’s stadium plans”
But also extra-sporty Cercle does not sit still. The dream of owning a stadium continues to exist. The new practice complex is in the last straight line
. Alexander Vantyghem: “You want to keep or take matters into your own hands, and not wait to see what happens with the stadium file? That applies to both our own stadium project and our training center. We want to decouple that from what happens with Club Brugge. We want have our own ambition, and realize our own projects, and not always end up in a wait-and-see attitude.
Chair Thomas Tousseyn begins its first full season. He especially wants to get people into the stadium: “
What do you dream of as president? I live in Leuven, and I notice that there is a lot of sympathy for Cercle in the interior. But that’s why those people don’t come to the stadium. My big dream would be that more people come to experience live what our philosophy is, what atmosphere we create here, what enthusiasm is brought to the table. I hope we get as many people in the stadium as possible. That is my dream.”
