Cercle Brugge gives AA Gent a heel
The duel in Jan Breydel started with an impressive tribute to Miguel Van Damme, the goalkeeper of Cercle who died this week after a long battle with leukemia. Children and youth players formed his jersey number 16 in the center circle, while the Cercle players carried a large photo of the goalkeeper onto the field and applauded in a circle with their Ghent colleagues for minutes.
Once referee Laforge had whistled the match, there were immediately fireworks on the field. Tarik Tissoudali gave Ghent the lead after just three minutes after playing together with Castro-Montes, but Cercle equalized almost immediately past Thibo Somers. He scored the 1-1 after a corner kick. After that spectacular opening phase, there were mainly many duels, but there was also a goal. Laurent Depoitre completed the preparatory work of captain Odjidja and Tissoudali on the half hour.
A similar picture in the second half, in which Ghent had to miss the injured Odjidja. Fierce duels and many game interruptions, Laforge finally added no less than nine minutes, but also scored. After a quick switch, Thibo Somers made his second of the afternoon in the 81st minute and thus saddled Ghent with an expensive loss of points. The visitors ended with ten red cards for substitute Hjulsager.
