CEO Matthias Leterme and Chairman Ronny Verhelst leave KV Kortrijk

Their departure is mainly due to the difficult attitude of the Malaysian owner Vincent Tan towards a possible buyer. Tan says he is willing to participate in a takeover. But when other, concrete, interested people actually come forward, Tan always doesn’t give up. And that no longer makes sense to Leterme and Verhelst. Hence their dismissal.

“Two concrete buyers rejected”

Sources within KV Kortrijk tell our editors that in recent weeks there have been two concrete options for a takeover of the club. One of them is the English Bournemouth. The other possible acquirer was PhD student Burnley. But Tan brushed them off. He joined the conversation, but eventually dropped out.

“Stay on board until there is a successor”

The club’s website states the following information: “With an extended stay in 1A in the pocket and boasting a strong financial basis, this seems like the right time for the club to write the next chapter.

Both will continue to play their roles in the interest of the club pending the appointment of their successors. Matthias Leterme has been active at KV Kortrijk since 2009, while Ronny Verhelst has held the chairmanship since 2020. Under their leadership, KV Kortrijk has grown into a stable club, both on and off the field.”
