The municipality of Midden-Drenthe is going to investigate asylum reception refugees from Ukraine. All political parties in the municipality of Midden-Drenthe support this proposal tonight.
“When we are asked to help, Midden-Drenthe will be willing to help,” says mayor Cees Bijl. “We can’t say we’re not home for a while, this is something that concerns us all.”
An official working group is set up and preparations are made as soon as possible. “So that action can be taken quickly when the need arises,” writes the proposal that has been signed by all parties. The possibility of small-scale humanitarian reception is being examined in this regard.
All parties agree
“We don’t know the question yet,” explains Bijl. “People in Ukraine are looking for safe shelter and will eventually also come to Central Drenthe. But we don’t know the question yet. That can also go further than taking in refugees.”
Bijl indicates that he is happy that all political parties in the municipality are on the same page. “The concerns we have at the moment are compared to the concerns they have in Ukraine.”
