Central American and Caribbean Games 2014 & 2018 in TM Database

Finals 2023 on Friday morning

In the night from Thursday to Friday, the game for third place and the final in football will take place at the Central American and Caribbean Games. In line with the final, Transfermarkt has entered the last events in 2014 and 2018 into the database. In 2014, hosts Mexico secured the gold medal in Veracruz. Venezuela took silver and Cuba bronze (vs. Honduras). Four years later, the host team won again in Colombia, Venezuela had to settle for silver again and Honduras clinched the bronze medal against Haiti.

While this year’s tournament is an under-22 competition due to the corona pandemic and is exceptionally not held in the normal four-year cycle, it is usually intended for under-21 teams. As in the Olympic Games, for example, three older players are allowed to participate.

The Central American and Caribbean Games, which include other sports in addition to football, have been held since 1930, and football has been part of the games since 1934. The most successful nations in men’s soccer are Mexico (6x gold, 6x silver, 1x bronze), Cuba (5x gold, 3x bronze) and Venezuela (2x gold, 5x silver, 2x bronze). Participating countries in the various disciplines are the IOC members from the Caribbean, Central America to Mexico and the north coast of South America.
