As of today, the city center of Assen has been designated as a safety risk area, making preventive searches possible. Mayor Marco Out has decided this.
Furthermore, Out – after consultation with the police and the Public Prosecution Service – decided to install camera surveillance on Drostenlaan and in the Gouverneurstuin. The reason for the measures is ‘various incidents’ in the (inner) city, the municipality writes.
Assen has been shocked by several violent incidents in recent months. There were several stabbing incidents in the center, including in Drostenlaan. The municipality recognizes that the street, near the Governor’s Garden, has long been a source of unrest where groups of young people hang out.
