What was going on there?! Borussia Dortmund apparently accidentally sent midfield star Julian Brandt’s cell phone number in a WhatsApp group. A telephone rings. Apparently the whole thing was a targeted action by BVB.
Borussia Dortmund has a WhatsApp channel where it sends fans news about the club. On Tuesday there is amazement, confusion – and hope. A seemingly private BVB message pops up.
“Tach Sven, here is Julian Brandt’s new number as discussed. He knows, just call through. +49176 46185695.”
Oops! Did BVB really accidentally make Brandt’s private number available to thousands of fans? A screenshot of the message is making the rounds on social media. Numerous supporters dial the number, some even report that Brandt answered the phone.
According to “Bild”, the whole thing was not an accident, but rather an action by the BVB’s social media editorial team.
Goal: Push the WhatsApp channel and get as much attention as possible. For the PR measure, BVB even posted a profile picture of the player for the number.

By the way, no one is picking up on the other end of the line anymore. “This mailbox is currently not available,” it says. So, dear BVB.
Brandt has been playing for BVB since 2019 and came to Westphalia from Bayer Leverkusen. The 27-year-old has since played 132 Bundesliga games for Borussia and scored 32 goals. His greatest success with BVB was the triumph in the 2021 DFB Cup. Brandt has appeared 44 times in the German national team jersey since 2016 and scored three goals.
With Dortmund, Brandt has to play again in the league on Friday. In their home stadium, BVB welcomes the in-form TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, who are currently one point ahead of Dortmund in 5th place.
