A 55-year-old personal coach and sports instructor from the municipality of Noordenveld was sentenced to one and a half years in prison for sexually abusing a client thirty years younger in his practice. Half a year of this is conditional.
The Public Prosecution Service (OM) demanded 21 months in prison against the man two weeks ago. The judge found that the man still works in the industry and therefore considers it necessary to impose a partly suspended sentence (as a warning). Moreover, the criminal offenses were committed at the beginning of 2018 and there has been a considerable lapse of time.
The man knew he was dealing with a vulnerable young woman who was experiencing sexual trauma. Nevertheless, the man suggested that she have a ‘positive sexual experience’.
The woman indicated that she did not want to, but the man persisted. According to the judge, the man abused his authority within a care relationship. He seems to hide his own interest in wanting to have sex and shows little self-understanding, the judge ruled.
The woman became entangled in a relationship she did not want, the public prosecutor outlined two weeks ago during the court hearing. Something snapped in her when he asked her to delete all texts and photos because she was suicidal.
“If you die, others may not find it,” the man had said. The woman told her story to another employee of the institution. The judge called the man’s behavior “reprehensible” and awarded compensation of 7,500 euros.
