Singer Celine Dion, 54, was devastated when she received a rare diagnosis.

Suffering from mysterious muscle spasms, Dion was diagnosed with stiffness syndrome.

According to the Neuroliitto website, stiff-person syndrome is an autoimmune-mediated neurological disease. Its symptoms include slowness of movements, muscle stiffness and muscle spasms.

One person in a million falls ill with the gradually progressing syndrome every year.

There is no cure for stiffness syndrome, so Dion aims to slow the progression of the stiffening disease. At worst, advanced symptoms make talking or moving impossible.
