“Blustery weather with quite a few showers, unfortunately we have to take that into account. There is a good chance that you will get wet if you watch the fireworks outside,” says the weatherman. Although he does have an important disclaimer: “It’s still a waste of money, because the weather forecast has changed a lot lately.”
Celebrating New Year in the rain
According to Matthijs, the wind will blow hard on December 31. “That is mainly during the day. In the evening the wind dies down a bit, so you don’t get blown away outside. For fireworks enthusiasts, a little wind is an advantage, because when there is no wind, you can see fireworks less well because of the fireworks fog.”
The weatherman indicates that the average temperature on New Year’s Day will be 7 to 10 degrees and that it will cool down to 4 to 8 degrees in the evening. “That’s pretty average. Last year it was 17 degrees locally, but this year you have to wear your winter coat. Or a rain jacket.”
Changeable New Year’s Day
Matthijs says about the weather in January: “The new year starts as 2023 ends: downright changeable. The rain areas continue to move into our country and the wind initially continues to blow strongly from the west. It may become slightly colder later and the chance of some winter precipitation increases, but that is still uncertain.”
