Celebrating King’s Day a little forgotten? This is what you can do

After two years of free market and festival-free years, an old-fashioned King’s Day is now approaching. But how do you celebrate the birthday of ‘our Willem’ again. Enough choice. Omroep Brabant lists some options for you.

Festivals
You can go wild during both King’s night and King’s Day. In Eindhoven you can go to Royal Dutch on the town hall square. In Breda, radio 538 is going big on the Chasséveld with artists such as Maan, Suzan & Freek and of course Snollebollekes.

Whether you sing the stars from heaven or just not completely pure, in Tilburg in the middle of the Schouwburgring it doesn’t matter. There you can sing along with all your heart during ‘Tilburg Zingt’.

And no need for all those ‘orange’ scenes? Then you are lucky. At the SMÈRRIG festival at the Sportiom in Den Bosch, the color pink is central. According to the festival, a color that ‘radiates togetherness, openness and unity’.

But you can have a party not only in the big cities. In Dongen Park, for example, they are transforming Vredeoord into the ‘Oranje Park Festival’. There you can experience love performances completely free of charge.

Start of the day
With a busy agenda full of festive activities, laying a good foundation is of great importance. They know that in Moerdijk too. There they start King’s Day with a communal village breakfast.

In Etten-Leur they start the day a little more traditionally. There is an aubade on the Marktplein at half past eight. In Bergen op Zoom they are also of the traditions. There you can admire a flag parade in the city center. That is special, because normally that ceremony can only be performed on military soil.

The residents of Raamsdonksveer also get up early, whether they like it or not. At seven o’clock the inhabitants are awakened by trumpets. This year not from a horse and carriage, but something more modern. The trumpeters are heard from a small train that runs through the village.

But nowhere are they there so early (or so late) as in Sprang Capelle. The local Orange Association ‘Willhelmina’ organizes a whole week. From Dutch music bingo to parties with radio 538 DJs during the ‘Verrückte Stunde’. They celebrate their 75th anniversary and that after two years of corona they can finally go wild again. So a double celebration.

Children’s King’s Party
Children who are bored, it is almost impossible on King’s Day. But in Uden it should be extra cozy. That’s where the children’s parties are. Children up to and including group 6 can go all out in theater Markant; snacking, tinkering and watching performances. It promises to be a crazy, orange mess.

And don’t forget the classic decorating of bicycles. They do that in Best, among other places. And after decorating, the parade through the streets should of course not be missed.

And what is a King’s Day without a free market? Virtually nothing, they also know in Vught. The municipality claims that the ‘largest free market in the region’ is located in the city center.

They can hardly wait in Bergen op Zoom. They start there on Tuesday afternoon at five o’clock. Good news for the enthusiast, there is hardly a municipality without a free market.

Enough to celebrate, and enough to feast. For example, ‘t Brabants Buske goes out to hand out orange tompouces. The King’s Day special of ‘t Buske can be seen on Wednesday from 18:45 at Omroep Brabant.
