Ceiling of shop in Haarlem collapses, shopkeepers are released with a fright

At a branch of the Zeeman on the Grote Houtstraat in Haarlem, part of the ceiling collapsed this afternoon. No one was injured, but two people had to be checked.

It concerns a so-called system ceiling, in which ceiling plates are in a suspension system. Part of it came down in the Zeeman around 5.30 pm this afternoon. There were still customers and staff in the store at the time.

Two people ended up under the fallen ceiling, but were able to escape on their own. The two were checked in an ambulance but were found not to have any injuries.

The fire service took gas measurements after the incident. Later this evening, Bouw en Woningtoezicht will also check the building. The property will then be transferred to the owners.
