The electronics chains Mediamarkt and Saturn want to restructure their repair and service business and in the course of this close two subsidiaries.
Around 800 employees of the subsidiary Tec Repair and another 50 from its management company are affected.
The repair service should be integrated into customer advice: “Instead of two separate contact points for repairs and sales advice, the customer now receives a broader service portfolio and all services from a single source,” said a spokeswoman for the MediaMarktSaturn Retail Group on Thursday in Ingolstadt. The new concept should take effect from October. The “Wirtschaftswoche” had previously reported on it. The chains with a total of 400 stores in Germany belong to the Ceconomy retail group.
According to the information, 400 new jobs are to be created in the stores “for the new role of a sales consultant who bundles the topics of advice, service and repair”. The 800 employees of Tec Repair could apply for these positions. A further 1,200 internal employees are to receive further technical training for the new tasks. In the future, more complex repairs will be carried out in a dedicated repair center in Erfurt. Around 20 new jobs would be created there.
There is already a reconciliation of interests and a social plan for the management company. “Negotiations are still ongoing in Tec Repair,” it said.
The Ceconomy share temporarily lost 1.81 percent to 2.71 euros via XETRA on Friday.
