Ceaușescu was a cruel dictator – Even to dogs

Rescue association Kulkurit brings homeless dogs from Romania to Finland. In the new series Rescue Me! – The story of dogs let’s follow the journey of Naava, Harri-Tapio and others from the kennels to their new home.

The group also includes Vieno. It almost didn’t even make it to the kennel, let alone Finland. It happened that the owner of the Cosoba kennel in Romania Adina Vladut noticed Vieno at the bus stop, but he knew that the shelter wouldn’t have had space at that exact moment.

– I decided to continue my journey, Adina tells representatives of Kulkurit ry about Vieno’s background.

He drove a few more kilometers before he changed his mind. Adina had to return to pick up Vieno. At the same time, he noticed that the dog was pregnant. In addition, one of the front legs was broken.

Vieno, Naava and Harri-Tapio are the consequences of the orders of the cruel dictator, Nicolae Ceaușescu, who was executed in 1989. In the 1980s, Ceaușescu ordered people to move to the cities. The dogs were left to their own devices in the countryside. That is why there are currently millions of homeless dogs in Romania and the problem has not been tackled with sustainable means according to the program. Instead of sterilizing, mass spaying is preferred.

The series has been filmed in different parts of Romania. Conditions for dogs are miserable everywhere, even in shelters, which Adina is the first to admit. Help can only be given to a fraction, and making a choice is difficult. The viewer’s eyes will not remain dry. Employees are also not spared from tears. The fates of some dogs are so heartbreaking.
