Parliament newcomer Dennis Haustein (32, CDU) can breathe a sigh of relief: When two constituencies were recounted on Friday, nothing changed in the result of his constituency. His direct mandate for the House of Representatives remains safe for him for the time being.

Left candidate Claudia Engelmann (43) is subject to him. There was a brief stalemate between the two politicians, but Haustein now leads by nine votes.

The citizens’ office on Egon-Erwin-Kisch-Strasse (Hohenschönhausen) was particularly attentive on Friday. Due to discrepancies in the transmission of data (the transcript and the first quick report had minimal discrepancies), votes from constituencies 119 and 309 were recounted.

A few visitors were there. “Are you really looking at every cross? Destinies depend on this election,” appealed to an Engelmann supporter to the volunteers.

Vice Mayor Kevin Hönicke (38, SPD) and the district returning officer want to announce the final result on Monday.
