CDA in Venray not in new coalition | 1Limburg

The CDA in Venray has been sentenced to the opposition. Participation in a coalition is not feasible, because confidence in the party has not yet been restored.

This is apparent from the advice of the two informers who have discussed the formation of a new coalition with all parties.

Conclusion
They came to the conclusion that a coalition of Venray Lokaal, VVD, Collaboration Venray and D66 does the most justice to the vote of the voter. Together they account for 17 of the 27 seats. SP, PvdA and GroenLinks – together 4 seats – can then see whether they can support their agreement as a left bloc, according to the two informateurs. These are the Brabant former mayors Toon van Asseldonk (D66-Grave) and Antoine Walraven (VVD-Mill and Sint Hubert).

According to the informants, the resignation of the CDA from the coalition in June last year, after sending their alderman Jan Loonen home, is causing resistance to start working together again. They do want to work on restoring confidence in the interests of Venray, they say.

More space
The informants have also noted that a fully boarded-up coalition agreement is no longer desired. There must be more room for the municipal council to come up with its own initiatives and to put things on the agenda itself. The two informants also state that although the four intended coalition parties can agree on a large number of themes, there are still differences. For example, when it comes to quality of life and sustainability in relation to intensive livestock farming. Or about the poverty policy.

Divide work
Furthermore, they do not agree on the number of aldermen: whether there should be four or five. The informants believe that it should be possible to divide the work among four aldermen, with a good division of roles and strong official support. Acting mayor Leontien Kompier could also include some non-political files in her portfolio.

On Monday, the eight parties will decide in a public session how to proceed with the formation.
