The CDA lost 29 seats in the municipal elections in Limburg. Nationally there were 145. Chairman Harold Schroeder of CDA Limburg calls the defeat ‘explainable’. However, he is not dissatisfied with the election results achieved.
“Of course it hurts that we lost candidates,” he tells L1. “But we also kept a lot of it standing.”
‘explainable’
There are many places where it can be explained that the party has lost seats, says Schroeder. That is because, according to the chairman, a lot has happened around the CDA in previous years. “These are places with the discussion about integrity.”
He also cites Roermond as an example. According to the chairman, the CDA has ended up in a ‘quarrel-like atmosphere’ there.
Stabilization
“Here and there I might have expected a seat more or less.” In Heerlen and Landgraaf an upward trend can be seen again, says Schroeder. And in Venlo the party has survived. He calls the CDA ‘reasonably stabilised’.
Rejuvenation
Within the CDA, the party is rejuvenating. That seems to be paying off in some places. “So we will continue with that. There is no panic at the CDA and certainly not at me.”
