CDA councilor Lucille werner is leaving the House of Representatives

Lucille Werner resigns from the House of Representatives. The former Lingo presenter from Eindhoven spent almost three years in the room for the CDA. She was especially committed to improving the position of people with disabilities. She will leave politics in November. “I will continue my mission, but in a different role,” she writes in a statement on social media.

Werner writes that she intended to sit in the Chamber for four years. But now that early elections have been called, she has decided to retire early. She will resign from her duties in November. “I will continue my mission, but from a different role.” It is unclear what that role is exactly.

Lucille Werner entered the House of Representatives after the 2021 elections. As number ten she was the big surprise on the CDA list. Before that, she was a host of the game show Lingo for many years. She was the only television presenter with a visible physical disability. Due to a lack of oxygen during birth, it is somewhat more difficult for her to walk.

As a council member, she was mainly committed to making society more inclusive for people with disabilities. Last year she received support from almost the entire House of Representatives for a proposal to allow people with disabilities to participate much more in society.

The Eindhoven resident says she has had a unique time in the room. “In recent years, I have been able to set up a national strategy together with colleagues. Can ensure that more TV programs are provided with subtitles and audio description. Being able to put physical accessibility on the map in the cultural sector and there is now also an eye for people with a disability within the emancipation policy of the cabinet.”
