C+B Museum Grolloo open to the public again after winter break

The C+B Museum in Grolloo is open again from today after a winter break. Visitors can visit the museum every Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The museum closed for three months in December due to sharply increased energy prices. “Then we thought: we can stay open with sky-high gas and electricity bills, but we can also close in the hope that prices will fall,” says board member Fred Lubbers.

The gas bill has not decreased much during the period that the museum was closed. “You have to keep this collection of instruments, photos and posters in good condition. So we couldn’t save much on that,” explains Lubbers. “But we turned off our 20 monitors and spotlights all winter, so we saved on electricity.”

“But yes, this is a monument with single brick walls and single glass. And a roof made of reed. In December we had a week with severe frost and the heat just flew out,” says Lubbers. A committee is now going to make an inventory of what can be done to reduce energy consumption in the museum and whether a subsidy can also be obtained for this.

The current exhibition about the life of Harry Muskee runs until the end of April. After that, the exhibition will be renewed. “Every two years we try to create a new exhibition with new accents and we are working hard on that now,” says museum chairman Lukas Koops.

He does not want to say too much about the new exhibition. “We will keep that to ourselves for a while, because it still has to be partly designed. We are busy collecting as much material as possible that fits that theme.”

“Next Sunday, the theme of the new exhibition will be announced during our Friends Day,” says Lubbers. “Because if we didn’t have volunteers and friends, there wouldn’t be a museum,” Koops adds. The museum is run by volunteers.
